How to set up a photo review campaign

There’s nothing like a bit of social proof to convince people to buy your products. Better yet, use photos of your products taken by happy customers. You can gather these photo reviews in Messenger on autopilot.

Why set up a photo review campaign?

You can turn customer content into sales by leveraging reviews and ratings of your products. Recent studies show that product reviews are essential to a successful business:

  • Consumers are 124% likelier to buy a product from a smartphone after reading a positive review
  • 90% of consumers want to read between 5-10 product reviews before gaining trust about a brand
  • Online product reviews yield an average sales uplift of 18%

Those statistics speak for themselves: if you want to sell your products, you need your customers to leave positive reviews. Adding the visual element of a photo of the product inspires even more confidence.

It turns out that testimonials with photos are significantly more effective at being remembered by your website visitors. If you run a Shopify store, there are a bunch of tools out there you can use to gather and display user-generated content as social proof. Fera.ai and Loox are two that we like especially.

You can use chat marketing to gather photo reviews of your products. Simply write a Messenger flow that asks people to:

  1. Rate their recent purchase
  2. Upload a picture through Messenger
  3. Write a short review of the product

Use a discount for their next purchase as an incentive, and end your flow by capturing an email address to send the discount code to. Share a direct link to this Messenger flow on your checkout page, in your confirmation email or behind a QR code on your custom packaging. That’s it. Now just watch the photo reviews come pouring in.

Step 1. Log into your ShopPop dashboard

Sign in to your ShopPop account, and go to ‘My Campaigns’ to get started. This is where you create new flows and start all of your chat marketing campaigns.

We added a simple ‘Photo Review Template’ flow in the ‘Templates’ section. This is a framework for you to edit to your liking. Select it and save it to ‘My Campaigns’ to start building your own.

Step 2. Choose your conversation starter

There are several ways you can share a flow online and drive traffic to your Messenger channel. Since we’re only targeting people who actually bought one of your products, we don’t need to reach a wider audience.

You can share a direct link to the photo review flow. Put this link in your confirmation email or on your checkout page. Make sure you incentivize people clicking the link with a discount or other giveaway.

Step 3. Write your Messenger flow

You can make your photo review campaign flow as simple or complex as you’d like. However, we suggest you include at least the following elements:

  • Save user input in custom fields. Ask people for the information you need, like the uploaded photo of their product, a rating of the product, and a short review. Save this information to their user profiles.
  • Raise conversations to Inbox. You can add a ‘Raise to Inbox’ component when people get to the end of the flow and might need assistance from a human being.

There’s much more you can do, of course, like adding gallery card carousels to brighten up the conversation and enrich the Messenger experience.

Step 4. Launch your photo review campaign

To launch your campaign, the only thing you need to do is add a direct link to your flow to your checkout page or confirmation email.

You can edit the URL that links to your flow by clicking the copy shareable link button in the top right corner of the chat-editor. Here’s an example of what a direct link looks like:

If you capture email addresses in your photo review flow, you can use Zapier to automatically send emails to people. This will allow you to automate an otherwise tedious manual process. People who’ve left a photo review and gave you their email address will receive an email with their discount code automatically.

How you'll benefit from this campaign

Collecting photo reviews is important because customers are looking for social proof that your products are worth buying.

Testimonials that include photos are significantly more effective at inspiring confidence and convincing people to buy from you. Messenger allows photo uploads, and ShopPop can save these to people’s user profiles on autopilot.

Using ShopPop's photo review template, editing it, and sharing a link to it at the right point in the customer journey gets you photo reviews that snowball into:

  • New customers
  • More (recurring) sales
  • Even more photo reviews

Best of all, you can literally set this up in minutes.
