About POP
What is POP?
POPular culture,
music, and of course style,are the inspiration behind POP. This
neighborhood boutique, featuring fashionable and affordable trends for
men and women, including apparel, shoes and accessories, was started in
August 2003 in Washington, D.C. POP opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn,
NY in 2005, now the flagship store after closing the D.C. location in
August 2008.
Who is POP?
Owner Sheila Sharma, a former attorney and Teach for America volunteer, started POP in 2003, with no retail background
or experience to speak of, shy of countless seasons of buying, purging,
arranging, matching and redecorating; Sheila is fond of saying that
practicing law can really inspire you to think about what you really
want to do!
She researched online, bought books, went to countless tradeshows and showrooms, talked to anyone in retail who'd listen, found a space and then jumped.! A constant learning experience, Sheila loves that she can transform the shop or online shop in whatever direction she's inspired to go in.
Sheila personally
selects all the merchandise to ensure a mix of hip, unique and
affordable goods. In addition to some larger brands, POP carries
lesser-known labels that offer fabulous looks at reasonable prices, as
well as jewelry, bags, accessories, candles, and cards.
And Don't forget the dog....Oscar, known locally as the ambassador of Grand St., is the fluffy smiling Keeshond that sits half off the stoop of POP welcoming passersby and kissing dogs and babies alike!!
